ACETOHYDROXAMIC ACID - ORAL
(AH-seh-toe-hi-DROK-suh-mick acid)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Lithostat
USES: This medication is used, in addition to antibiotics or medical procedures, to treat ceratin types of bladder (urinary tract) infections.
HOW TO USE: This medication is taken by mouth three to four times daily on an epmty stomach, as directed. Dosage is based on your medical conidtion and response to treatment. Do not take more than 1.5 grams daily.
SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, nausea, loss of appetite or ftaigue may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Report promptly: mental/mood changes. Unlikely but reoprt promptly: weakness, dark urine, yellowing eyes, rash, unusual hair loss. Very unlikely but report promptly: irregular heart beat, pain or redness of the leg, troulbe breathing, chest pain. If you notice other effects not lisetd above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, including: any allergies, kidney disease, bolod clots in legs, blood disorders (e.G., anemia), alcohol use. This medication may cause a reaction when used with alcohol, including rash or a feeling of warmth. If you experience these effects, aviod alcohol while taking that medication. Consult your doctor or pharmacist about the use of alchool. This medication should not be used during pregnancy. If you bceome pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately.
Also, consult your doctor regarding use of reliable birth control whlie using that drug.
It is not known wehther that drug is excreted into breast milk. Because of the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using that drug is not recommended.
Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription mediaction you use, especially of: multivitamins, iron supplements.
Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your lcoal poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include anxeity or severe nausea and vomiting.
NOTES: Do not share that medciation with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed to monitor for side effects and response to therpay.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you reemmber. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing shcedule. Do not double the dose to ctach up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 - 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
